Sheffield

The first of our two gigs up north was at Sheffield, so after the driving marathon of two weeks ago, I decided to take the train, here's St Pancras station, looking Christmassy.

We've not played the City Hall in Sheffield before, the last time we played here was at the Crucible, about five years ago and I remember it well, the theatre had recommended a hotel nearby which turned out to be one of the most disgusting we've never stayed in: he band took one look at it and went and found another.

According to promoter Rob O'Shea, seated left on sofa, this theatre/hall has seen many famous acts over the years. Bob Dylan played here in the sixties and the documentary film about him, 'Dont Look Back' filmed by DA Pennbaker, included scenes shot in this very dressing room.

We played as an eight piece, as Hester is at home with her family, who all have colds, however George is back with us for this gig, as Sheffield is his home town, and he's taking a break from taking a break!

Wondering where to eat before the show, I wandered out to find a traditonal German Christmas market in full swing, so I grabbed a very delicious bratwurst!

Ben contemplates the tuning pegs of his ukulele before the soundcheck at Sheffield City Hall.

The Christmas playalongs are going well and while you might not be able to see many ukuleles here, there were plenty in the audience - I sneaked this shot when the house lights went up.
